In November 2018, Eloise and Lewis hire a automobile in Las Vegas and take off on a two-week street journey across the American southwest. While wildfires rage, the married couple make their way thru Nevada, California, Arizona, and Utah, tracing the route of the Colorado River, the aquatic artery on which the Southwest relies upon for survival.
Lewis, an artist working for a prominent land artwork basis, is grieving the recent dying of his mom, even as Eloise is an educational learning the beyond and future of the Colorado River because it threatens to run dry. Over the route in their ride, Eloise, starting to suspect she is probably pregnant, helplessly witnesses Lewis’s descent as he struggles to find a place for himself within the desert in which he never quite felt at home.
